Kwazulu-Natal (KZN) has 35 Important Bird Areas, the most of any Province. Currently, Nick is working to assess all these IBAs which will allow BirdLife South Africa to prioritise and identify IBAs most in need of conservation attention. A strong focus of KZN Regional Conservation work is centred around the grasslands, wetlands and forest in southern KZN. This area is host to a number of endangered and endemic species with a number of IBAs found here. A key aspect of Nick's work is to conserve important habitat for these species through mechanisms such as Biodiversity Stewardship and we are working to formally declare 2000 ha of critical grassland habitat. Other aspects of his work include monitoring species, environmental education and commenting on development applications.
