25 April 2016
Share your penguin pictures with BirdLife South Africa and stand a chance to win!
25 April is World Penguin Day, and BirdLife South Africa is celebrating this important day by inviting members of the public to showcase the beautify and diversity of the world’s penguins via our Penguin Photo Competition on Facebook.
Remember to tag your photos using #BirdLifeWPD and #LovePenguins
It is rumoured that World Penguin Day started at the McMurdo Station in Antarctica, after researchers observed a colony of Adélie Penguins returning from sea every year on 25 April. Whether this is true or not can only be speculated, but these days World Penguin Day is used to educate and raise awareness about the 18 penguin species we share our planet with.
Photographers are invited to enter their penguin pictures. A photograph of any species of penguin can be entered. Photographers must include the location and a short description of the picture. The winner will be announced on World Penguin Day and will receive a bottle of delicious Diemersfontein For the Birds! Wine. Only South African residents over the age of 18 are eligible to win the prize, but international photographers and under-18s are encouraged to share their photos.
